The Board of Directors of Empty Bowls Monongalia cordially invites you to a Spring Gala, an evening of wine, beer, spirits, and fine dining. Music by the Jenny Wilson Trio and the Panniken Calypso Steel Drum Band, as well as both silent and live auctions offering a variety of unique items, and engaging games with fantastic prizes will be available throughout the evening.
How is my contribution used?
The mission of Empty Bowls is as follows: through education and continued involvement, Empty Bowls Monongalia provides resources and assistance to Monongalia County agencies supporting individuals and families threatened by food insecurity. Our goal is to raise as much money as possible to feed the hungry in Monongalia County.
Funds raised by the Spring Gala will provide support to 22 agencies serving a food insecure population of over 16,000 residents in Monongalia County, including 2,600. These agencies provide hot meals to our hungry friends and neighbors, nutritious groceries to our food pantries, and food-filled weekend backpacks to school children
Empty Bowls Monongalia is an all-volunteer agency with no paid employees. Our operating expenses are less than 10%. We credit the success of Empty Bowls to the dedication of over 700 registered volunteers who contribute their time and efforts year round. Some volunteers serve as members of the Board of Directors and in other leadership positions. The volunteers plan community fundraising events, sell tickets, develop logistics for our annual soup and bread luncheon, implement public relations activities, solicit donations of food and ceramic bowls, secure in-kind donations and supplies for our operations, and serve as office assistants and accountants.
Our Agency Liaison Committee visits each participating agency at least once a year in order to understand its programs and needs. The committee distributes agency funding applications, reviews the requests, and makes allocation recommendations to the Board based upon available funds.
