Tons of Potatos

Yesterday Empty Bowls volunteers picked up 150 bags of potatoes to deliver to food pantries in Mon Cty.  Each bag weighs about 55 pounds.

Potatoes were donated to the food pantries by The Vegetable Garden and Davis Brothers Farm in Masontown, WV.  Empty Bowls volunteers arrived to the farm around4:00PM and assisted farm personnel to load the bags into a dump truck provided by Pat Alexander (Donna, Mike will have info regarding proper name of the company.).

Julie and Jay Mallow own the Vegetable Garden and Debbie and Rob Crawford are farm managers.  Julie and Debbie are sisters and have been farming with their father, Jim Davis, since they were little children.

Debbie told us she recognizes that living on the farm has provided her and her family with a great bounty that she would like to share with others; thus, the donation to the pantries.

Once potatoes were loaded, we took them to the Shack for interim storage.  The area food pantries have been contacted and will pick up potatoes.  Should any pantry require delivery, they should contact Empty Bowls personnel for assistance.
